General functions

The University Quality Assurance Department is responsible for accrediting and assessing universities, their teaching staff and other related activities, in accordance with Valencian Regional Cabinet Decree 6/2008, of 18th January, under which the Valencian Assessment and Futures Agency’s legal base was passed. This includes:

  • Accrediting and assessing university teaching staff’s teaching, research and management activities; degree programmes and their study plans; courses which lead to degrees; the teaching, research and management activities carried out within university departments and related areas of knowledge; the activities, programmes, services and management of university institutions and approved centres, and of centres which follow foreign teaching systems; and the programmes, activities and services provided by the Valencian university system.
  • Proposing measures to improve the quality of services provided by Valencian public universities, particularly in terms of teaching and research.
  • The assessment of teaching staff, prior to their recruitment, as stipulated by the Organic Law on Universities.
  • The assessment of teaching staff’s individual teaching, research and management experience, prior to their recruitment, which will determine how much they will each receive in additional salary payments.
  • Providing relevant information requested by social councils, universities and public authorities, and particularly information on the introduction or withdrawal of degree programmes and centres which must be authorised by the Valencian Regional Government.
  • Reporting on educational proposals to create new universities or accredit existing ones, and to create, modify or withdraw centres or degree programmes.
  • Fostering excellence in the Valencian Region’s higher education system, through the quality, transparency, comparison, cooperation and competitiveness of its educational institutions on the national and international stage.
  • Putting forward quality objectives for the Valencian university system to obtain government funding and to assess and measure levels of compliance.
  • Independently assessing the quality of the public service provided by higher education centres, in order to provide information on this service to the general public, public authorities and the universities themselves.
  • Evaluating and fostering relationships between universities and businesses for the purposes of training, scientific research, technological development and business innovation needs.
