Royal Decree 1393/2007, of 29th October, entrusts ANECA, and AVAP (as the Valencian Region’s assessment body for higher education quality), with monitoring approved degree programmes, based on general information. These programmes must subsequently be assessed so that their accreditation can be renewed. Should any shortcomings be brought to light, the university itself, the Valencian Regional Government and the Council of Universities are informed so that these weak points can be rectified.
The process is completed six years after a new degree course is introduced, when a new accreditation checks that the study plan is being followed as stated in the initial project.
Within this framework, and bearing in mind both the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area, and the recommendations of the REACU (Spanish Network of University Quality Agencies), AVAP will soon be launching a programme to monitor new degree programmes run at universities in the Valencian Region. Analyses and reports produced through this programme will provide information for the various stakeholders involved in developing and implementing new degree programmes and thus contribute to ensuring their quality.
