Assessment of new Bachelor’s degree programmes for the 2009-2010 academic year

Valencian universities, following the instructions given on 22nd October 2008 by the Directorate General for Universities and Higher Education (which authorises Bachelor’s degrees in the Valencian Region), put forward their requests to introduce Bachelor’s degree courses for the 2009-2010 academic year to the said Directorate General for approval. These degrees had to be approved before the study plans were sent to the Council of Universities to be verified.

AVAP has assessed the proposals to introduce Bachelor’s degree courses for the 2009-2010 academic year, in accordance with the criteria used for the introduction of degree programmes which are set out in article 37 of Valencian Regional Government Law 4/2007, of 9th February, on Coordinating the Valencian University System. These criteria are:

1 . Suitability of teaching staff to teach the degree course in question. At least 30% of the teaching staff should have a doctorate, and 60% should be full-time.

2 . Suitability in terms of student demand for the degree programme and of its relevance for society. This is particularly important given Valencian society’s need for specialised degree programmes.

3 . Recruitment opportunities for the programme’s graduates.

4 . The degree programme’s area of influence. The programmes must be equally shared out across the region, i.e. no overlapping or lack of availability, and must cater to the needs of Valencian society.

Each of the courses requested was given a score and a positive or negative assessment result.
